Looks like CRT won't be king for long.

After seeing Mandy and Tom's new Sharp Aquos hooked up to an HD LG PVR, I was very impressed. The level of detail on the TV (with HD Content) was really good. It's the first time I've watched someone elses TV setup and wondered if my Loewe was actually on par.

So with the news that those things which typically make LCDs inferior to CRT are soon to be a thing of the past means LCDs could be the new standard.

LCDs typically have trouble dealing with blacks (most sites seem to call this deep blacks? not really sure what they mean because anything lighter than black would be grey wouldn't it?) and dark colours. A new range of LCD TVs from eCinema look to have this all sewn up with a new technology supports "deep color" and the HDMI 1.3 Specification. The result is the support of up to 48-bit colour far and beyond previous LCD attempts.

Their eCinema DMC40HDR 40-inch LCD boasts these features:

  • Darkest black level output of any TFT in the market
  • Can be used for professional color grading -- previously done using only CRTs
  • Can be used for professional critical picture evaluation -- previously done using only CRTs
  • Allows accurate viewing of intra-field motion on interlaced standards
  • Video displayed at true frame rates for all standards
  • Rugged shock mounted components for field operations
