Can you ever have enough storage?

It seems to be the time for HDD upgrades. Not that long ago I upgraded my Topfield PVR to a huge 500Gb after a good find on Zazz. The Mac was next to follow after it's drive and logic board bit the dust. It got a healthy upgrade to 320Gb.

Today was my LACIE removable drive. My LACIE has been doing the Tick Tick Tick noise since Tuesday... I got it working this morning by dropping it while it was on and ticking... managed to get the head to move again, though it probably best to get the data off now... while I can...

So I've now got a 320gb Iomega beast being feed acres of data of the LACIE while its still spinning... no bad reads yet :)

I blame addictive gaming

It's been a while since I've put a post up on here and I'm blaming games.... I've been putting some serious hours into a handful of games and none of them seem to have an end in sight.

Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones (GBA) - 9hrs (which is really about 11 with the chapter reloads)
Spectrobes (NDS) - 108hrs (which is really only about 30 hours because it counts time while it's paused)
Zelda - Twilight princess (Wii) - 13hrs (I'm into the 3rd dungeon at the moment)

To top that off I managed to pick up Half Life 2 (Xbox) for $20 at Harvey Norman (who seem to have 50% off all xbox games), fortunately I've lent it to Tom so is his addiction for the short term.

I also found a great racing wheel for the Xbox. It's a Gamester Race Pac Racing Wheel for the Xbox and PS2. The key to it is that the pedals and wheel are mounted to a seat so there's no need to find a table or worry about the pedals slipping on the floor.

It's been a pretty good solution so far, the only problem is finding enough floor space to use it. It's too big for the games room unless I put it on some horrible angle. I've been rediscovering Burnout with it. It might even turn me to try a more realistic racing game... might.

The newest purchase of the day is a 7" Digital Photo Frame from Target. They went on sale today for $99 so we ducked in first thing to make sure we didn't miss out. Looks like it will be a pretty good item but I'm leaving it packed up until I get home.

So with all the gaming at the moment there just hasn't been time to blog. I might keep a few more updates on here as I progress through zelda because I apparently have another 58hrs to go! Fire Emblem and Spectrobes are relegated to bus playing. I've also got Children of Mana that I'll kick into once I get through Spectorbes. I had some serious thoughts about picking up a 360 but with all the games I've got (in my collection ie. Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows, HL2, NFS:U, Metal Slug 4, DoA3 etc etc) to play on the Xbox I'm going to hold off a little longer. The next step will be an upgrade of the games room.

Gaming Room upgrade

With some of my birthday money's I thought I'd look at upgrading my Gaming room. I had a couple of options... The first was to upgrade the display to a largish (26" or more) flat panel for my current gamut of consoles with the option to use it as a low end PC monitor and secondary DVD room. The second was to look at a smaller flat panel display and get an Xbox 360. I've been mulling it over since Saturday and I think I'm going to go with the first option.

The main reason for leaving the 360 on the back burner is the announcement of the Elite version. I figure even if I don't get the Elite version the 360 premium will drop in price. Also the other reason is the really good price that is going on the 32" Acer panel I have found. It's the big brother to the 26" panel that is in most of the EB stores which does very nicely on the PS3 demos/consoles they have running.
There are a couple of display models that are around that I'm planning on picking up that drop that price a little more. It means the 360 will have to wait a little longer but will be much easier to take on a 32" display than the 22" I'd end up with if I got one now.

Hopefully by tomorrow I'll be blogging the new pics of my gaming display...

CAKES!!!

As many of you know it was my birthday on Friday and we had a bit of a party on Saturday.. Heaps of people made it and (at least I think) it turned out a great day. One of the highlights has to be the cakes (on the left). 5 cakes were a pretty good effort for one birthday. It's hard to pick a favourite, Tom's toblerone cheesecake and Vanessa's Golden Buttercake were my top 2 though.

I hope everyone had a good day... I certainly did and thanks to everyone for the great presents.

DVD List update

I've update my link to the DVD list on the right. The old DVD tracker service is going down so I'm managing them just as efficiently in a Google Spreadsheet.

The list will be here from now on.

Only 3 more sleeps...

The end of this week is drawing ever closer and that means only one thing (well for me anyway). It's my Birthday!!! There are are good and bad sides to this one unfortunately. The up side is as always presents and the party aspect... This particular milestone will bring me scarily close to the 30 barrier which is a little scary for me... at least there will be presents :)

Fish v2.o has made it through his first night, although he has managed to make the water pretty murky already. I've had a bit more play with the filter/pump and made it less of a tsunami like tide shift for the fish but he seems to like attacking it so I'm leaving it off until I can watch him a bit more and block it off with the plants.

Interesting gaming news is the release of a QWERTY keyboard attachment for the Xbox 360 controller. It's main purpose for the time being is a instant messaging add on for the 360 Dashboard in the newest update. It does pose interesting questions about the possibility of the 360 joining existing MMORPG market though... guess we'll have to wait and see.

In Spectrobes updates, this game (as far as I'm concerned) keeps getting better and better. A couple of recently unlocked aspects are the CARD input and the Nintendo Wifi Connection. The CARD input allows you to trade cards (4 of which come with the game) to unlock new power ups and spectrobes for your collection. The same gear can also be downloaded from the wifi connection by trading points (you accumulate in the game). The download system also has hints and tips as well as a video content expanding on the story. Each spectrobe can level to 128 so they have a fair bit of leveling life in them... It's occupying most of my gaming time at the moment. I managed to cram about 25 hours of leveling into the long weekend.

I had a bit of a shop around on the weekend saw a couple of this that I though were worth adding to the birthday list.

Mechassult: Phantom War (DS)
Xbox 360 :)
biOrb Aquarium
Creature Comforts Series 2 DVD
Bean Bag Beans

I know there was more but I've forgotten now...

Fish v2.0

After the sad loss of the last fish we've tried v2.0. We picked "Fish v2.0" for Annerley Aquarium's today and he seems to be settling in well to his new home... He's not as energetic as "Red" but hopefully that means he'll last a little longer.

I also got a chance to check out some of the really cool tanks that they have at the store including the complete fish bowl and corner tanks.

In the end I caved and got a pump for my tank to try and keep it a bit cleaner for longer. The current is a bit strong but I've modified it a little to slow it down...
