A trip to Currumbin Valley on the Fixie

Decided to head out on my fixie and explore the Currumbin Valley after finding this post on Australian Cyclist. It was pretty dark to start with only my Lezyne Mini Drive to light the way.

It was a really nice ride through what was mostly open country side and I hardly saw a person on the road. It was more of a climb than I was expecting (or even noticed to be honest until I saw the stats when I got back). Definitely a ride I would do again, next time I might try continuing on and coming back on Tallebudgera Creek Road... Might try that when it's a bit lighter.

PhotoJoJo Lenses...

My Sister very kindly gave me an early birthday present over easter some Photojojo lenses for my iPhone. It's a very cool system. A magnet attaches the lens to the back of phone and you just shoot away with a 2x Telephoto or Wide Angle shot.

Here are some with the Telephoto Lens

Here are some with the wide/macro lens

The only real trick is to get the alignment right... other than that they are a brilliant addition to the iPhone camera bag.

Photo Revival

At the start of this year I was challenged to take a photo challenge for the month of January. Initially I thought it was a bit gimmicky but was happy to give it a go.

I must say though, we are only 3 days in and I'm completely inspired to take photos. I'm just loving it. Today's challenge was to shoot "Something you adore" which I found really hard because there are so many things that I love doing. A byproduct though was this shot I grabbed while I rode to work this morning.
Riding the star
I absolutely love the shot and can't really explain why...

Anyway back on the challenge... this is the thing I eventually posted for today... which was basically all the things I enjoyed in the morning... Coffee (because the children woke up at 5am), Playing with the kids (Lets face it I'm a kid myself),  Riding (my current addiction)

Something you adore - Life
I'm sure there will be more to come

Cycling through obsessions.

I wasn't intending that title to be a pun but I guess one of my current obessions is back to cycling although I'm trying for it not to be a purchase heavy obsession at the moment. The temptation to get a new bike is pretty strong given the age and spec of my bike (especially compared to the rest of the people I ride with) but I seem to be keeping up with them ok at the moment so I'm resisting the new bike urge.
The post was actually because I've come full circle back to photography, trying very hard to not start the audiophile cycle again (yes Andrew I'm looking at you). I haven't bought much for my camera since I the original purchase a few years ago (a pentax k200d) with the exception of a 50mm 1.4 prime fully manual. It takes fantastic and beautiful photos but is a bit hard to focus given the shallow depth of field. It's not bad if you have a plenty of time to setup the shot and focus but now the little one is getting bigger and much faster on his feet it's very hit and miss.
The obvious direction this is going is that I bought a new lens, while is a wider angle than the manual one I have it's nice and compact and still fairly fast at 2.8. I managed to get PENTAX DA 40mm F2.8 Limited fairly cheaply on eBay and I'm hoping that it will be a good auto alternative for my old 50mm.

It does make the camera look a little anemic though

Stay tuned for some sample pics (provided it turns up of course)
