Taking the Shaving Seriously

A Big thanks to everyone who chipped in to make sure I smashed the target to shave my legs (apart from the fact I'm scared that I now have to shave my legs)

To show that I'm taking it seriously though.... I thought I'd start with my head :) (yes that's a cut throat razor)

Tomorrow we head out for the Midi Smiddy... 570km of riding in what looks to be some very wet riding.

Time for a shave....

Well looks like everyone has rallied around the challenge to have my legs shaved and pushed me to the target!

Thanks to everyone for the support it's great that you could support a great cause.

Lastly I'd like to ask one more thing from everyone whether you've donated or not. That's to go and have a mole scan / skin check. This charity was started when a young man was diagnosed with a very aggressive melanoma and passed away.

Again thanks for the support and the generous donations.

A week and a half to go to The Midi Smiddy

As may or may not know that this year I've embarked on a crazy cycling challenge called the Midi Smiddy, where we are cycling 570km in 3 Days. There a few reasons why I've decided to take up the challenge and raise money for cancer research but mostly inspired with my Dad's fight with Cancer.

Firstly, I just thought I'd email everyone now that it's close to the event to say a Huge thank you to everyone that's already given to the cause to help reach my goal.

Secondly I thought I'd let everyone know how they can track my progress over the weekend both on the Smiddy Blog and My Blog (If I haven't collapsed from exhaustion). If you're a interested in the facts and figures then you can see my stats on the ride (and for my training so far) on Strava.

Thanks again!
Cameron (officially a crazy cyclist)

PS. Someone has put out the challenge for me shave my legs for the ride (not quite that crazy a cyclist yet)... I've reluctantly agreed if I hit a $2000 fundraising target... :)

Blogging from 10,000 feet

Well into my second flight for the day and about 17 hours since I left Brisbane I'm blogging mid flight in my way to Dallas from LAX.

It's more for the novelty value than anything else but having wifi on the plane is pretty handy. Unfortunately this isnt my last flight for the day. It's about another 7 hours until I reach New Orleans. Lucky I have the iPad and plenty of charge.

Inspiration for a ride

I've been posting a fair bit about my preparation for the craziness that I've signed up for in June (less than a month away) but I haven't said a lot about why I've signed up to ride the 570km in 3 short days.

At the moment it's pretty rare to talk to someone who hasn't had or doesn't know someone who's battled cancer. That sort of statistic is probably reason enough to raise funds for research. Unfortunately, just as many others, more than a few of my family members have had their various battles (both won and sadly lost) including my Dad who while successfully battling prostate cancer shortly after lost his sight.

I find it just amazing that after such tremendous blows to his health and generally quality of life he still managed to find a new career even with his loss of sight. To his credit he makes it look easy living with a vision impairment with virtually no complaint.

If he can live through that struggle every day a few days of pain on a bike seems insignificant.
